| Born in Italy in 1867. Regli was a member of the Italian cavalry who had to leave Italy after killing a nobleman over the love of the girl who posed for Stella. (Stella, a reclining nude, was made famous at the World’s Columbian Exposition in 1893 and the PPIE of 1915.) Regli lived in obscurity in Los Angeles from 1889. In 1926 he received publicity in the Los Angeles Times for painting Oda, a mate to Stella. In 1931 he was the proprietor of the Florence Art School in Los Angeles and during (showing 500 of 719 characters). |
