This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A French aristocrat born in Sancerre, France, she had a birth date of either 1776, 1779 or earlier. She was taught to sketch and married Jean-Guillaume Hyde de Neuville, age 18, an outspoken supporter of the Bourban monarchy. A price on his head, they took refuge for 13 years in the U. S., arriving in 1807. They traveled extensively , and she sketched with watercolors, leaving a valuable historical record of early 19th century American life. In 1814, when Napolean was overthrown, they returned to France and then returned to the U.S. living in Washington D.C. for six years when he was appointed French Minister to the United States.
