Benjamin Franklin Reinhart was born near Waynesburg, Pennsylvania in 1829. He showed his artistic talent at an early age; by 15, he was studying painting in Pittsburgh, and by 18 he was in New York City at the National Academy of Design.
An enterprising youth, he traveled about the Midwest as an eighteen and nineteen year old looking for subject matter for his paintings. By 1850, at the age of twenty-one, Reinhart was studying history painting in Dusseldorf, Paris and Rome, continuing for (showing 500 of 1372 characters). |
