Born in Roskilde, Denmark, Carl Rohl-Smith became a sculptor of historical figures and commemorative monuments including "General William Tecumseh Sherman", in Washington DC at 15th Streets and Pennsylvania Avenue by the Treasury Building, and "William W. Belknap" at Arlington Cemetery.
Rohl-Smith studied with Herman Vilhelm Bissen at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen from 1865 to 1870, and also studied in Berlin from 1875 to 1877 and Vienna from 1877 to 1881. He was a professor of sculptur (showing 500 of 1382 characters). |
