| | Portrait painter. Born in San Francisco, CA on Sept. 24, 1873. Rixford studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute under Mathews followed by study in Paris with Laurens at Académie Julian and with Whistler. Married twice, she was the wife of Covington Johnson (1904) and Benton Byrd (1917). A lifelong resident of San Francisco, she had a studio in her home at 1813 Pierce Street. She died on Jan. 28, 1961 in Stockton, CA. Her brother, Loring Rixford, was architect for the city of San Francisco, and her sister, Genéve Aixford Sargeant, became a well-known painter.
