Biography from Gallery Paule Anglim:
In her paintings, Clare Rojas places figures in crisp, colorful landscapes, and combines styles of cartoon and folk art to challenge viewers on issues of sexual roles, especially role reversals.  Often the male is the object of mockery and penetrating female gazing, and women, men, nature and animals are strong and weak caring and connected to one another in their struggle to find harmony and balance.  She celebrates women for their traditional and most basic differences and strengths. While the characters are often imbued with feelings of loss and nostalgia, one gets the sense that they will not back down. They will ultimately beat their predators at their own game.

In 2003 Clare Rojas had a group exhibition at the Luggage Store in San Francisco  On the opening night, Rojas performed a handful of songs under her stage name, Peggy Honeywell, which made her artwork parallel with her music, sharing themes and essence.  She wore a disarming wig and appearing to have stepped right out of a Clare Rojas painting with her guitar in hand, she sang folksy songs intended to transport her audience to a timeless place where judgments are tabled, and stories are told with unwavering charm and insight.

In 2004 Rojas had a solo show at the San Francisco Art Institute and at the Belkin Satellite Gallery in Vancouver.

Her work was included in the travelling exhibition, "Beautiful Losers", which recently visited the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco where she lives and works.
