| | Born in New York in 1827. Reed arrived in California with the Gold Rush and by 1854 had settled in San Jose. In that year he was secretary of the Santa Clara Agriculture Society. By the 1860s he was an agent for the Wells Fargo Company and active locally until his demise on March 7, 1912.
