This biography from the Archives of AskART:
An illustrator, painter and etcher who had a varied, adventurous life, Emile Roure was born and raised in San Francisco, California by French parents.  His painting subjects include landscapes, seascapes, portraits and scenes from his many travels.

Emile Roure showed early art talent and at age eleven began study with Eugene Taniere in San Francisco.  He served in the Spanish American War as a staff artist in the Phillipines for the Associated Press, and then lived in New York City where he was treasurer of Carnegie Hall.

He spent two years traveling at sea and also was in the Smoky Mountains with Cherokee Indians, and then in 1937 taught in Washington DC at the National School of Fine and Applied Art.  The next year, he was in Palm Springs, California where he established a studio.

Emile Roure died in Miami, Florida in 1970.  Exhibition venues included the National Gallery in Washington DC, Painters and Sculptors of Los Angeles and Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts.
