This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Ephraim Rubenstein does painting, drawing and mixed-media works, and is a teacher in New York City at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League, and in Maryland at the Maryland Institute College of Art.  He has also been a visiting professor at the Rhode Island School of Design.  Among his teaching subjects are plein-air landscape painting and life drawing.   Some of his artwork has been made available to the Art in Embassies Program.

Rubenstein's mediums include conte crayon, charcoal, wax, ink, and graphite--to create images that include portraits, still lifes and animals, especially dogs.  He tries to avoid sentimentality, but brings emotion to this work, especially since many of his subjects are his Great Dane dogs whom he depicts in various stages of activity from jumping to sleeping.

Ephraim Rubenstein was born in Brooklyn, New York, and earned an M.A. in Art History from Columbia University and an M.F.A. from the Columbia School of Fine Art.  He also studied with Francis Cunningham at the Brooklyn Museum School, with Harvey Dinnerstein at the National Academy of Design, and with Robert Beverly Hale at the Art Students League.
