Ruthrauff studied in California with Wm V. Cahill and William Clapp, and in Paris with Henri Morrisett,
A railroad executive who painted in his leisure, he was a resident of Berkeley, CAuntil 1925 and then settled in Ogden, UT where he was president of the Utah Art Institute until his death on Feb. 15, 1932.
