| The following, submitted June 2005, is from the artist who lives in San Antonio, Texas. Always
proud of her Colombian and Mexican roots, Gladys Roldan-de-Moras has a
passion for art that she intends to reflect in her colorful work. She
strives to capture the essence of the moment, and often there is a
hidden message the artist wants to convey. The product of a
long line of artists and artisans, Gladys Roldan-de-Moras was born in
1965 in Monterrey, Mexico. She began enjoying art at a very young
age and took a circuitous route to become a fine artist. After
attending Medical School she left her medical career to become an
artist. In 1984 she moved to Austin where she received her degree
from the University of Texas.
Gladys Roldan de-Moras has
studied painting in workshops with Dan Gerhartz, Morgan Weistling,
George Strickland, Frank Lalumia, Daniel Greene, Scott Burdick, Kevin
Macpherson, Ron Rencher, Sherrie McGraw, Ken Backhaus, Laura Robb,
Janice Yow Hindes, William Hocker, Harold Phoenix, Helen Van Wyk, John
Budicin, C.J Beck, Professor Gustavo Trujillo Martin del Campo and
Richard Schmid. Especially influential has been Daniel F
Gerhartz.
Gladys Roldan-de-Moras now teaches oil painting at the Coppini Academy of Fine Arts and gives workshops during the year.
Her
paintings are in the collections of the University of Texas in San
Antonio (UTSA), San Antonio Art League Museum Permanent Collection,
Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), Hospitals, Law Firms,
On-Board Software Co. etc. Her artwork has been featured in the TV
program "Lo Mejor de lo Nuestro (Univision). She has been cited
in the newspapers San Antonio Express News, Prime Time, Tritonian, EL Dictamen de Veracruz, and La Voz Latina.
Gladys
Roldan-de-Moras also donates her artwork to several charities including
the KLRN Art auction (PBS), AyudaArte (Catholic Charities) and the
Annual Richard Schmid Fine Art Auction in Colorado.
Awards
include "Artist Magazine Award for Excellence in Painting" at the Oil
Painters of America; the "Julian Onderdonk Memorial Purchase Award"
from the San Antonio Art League 2004 74th Annual Artist Exhibition, and
the Grumbacher Award. Roldan de Moras has been named Artist of
the Year at The Coppini Academy of Fine Arts.
She has illustrated children books entitled Bike Hike and most recently On with the Race
authored by Kathryn D. Grace and published in 1998. She
demonstrates her talent in various media such as oil, pastel,
watercolor, pencil and charcoal.
During the summer months and
holidays, Roldan-de-Moras travels to her native land, Mexico, and other
countries where she works on paintings, teaches workshops, and searches
for new ideas. S he enjoys and encourages Plein-Aire painting, which
she does with a field easel and umbrella.

member of The American Society of Classical Realism (ASCR), The
American Society of Portrait Artists (ASOPA), The New York Society of
Portrait Artists, Oil Painters of America, Christians in Portraiture,
Knickerbocker Artists, The Coppini Academy of Fine Arts, and the
