This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Gounod Romandy was born on Coronado Island, California, on April 18, 1893, beginning a life in art that started with music. Accomplished on the violin by the age of six, Romandy joined the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra following high school, studying music and painting under J. Bond Francisco.

Romandy furthered his art studies and focused on California impressionist landscape painting with Jack Wilkinson Smith and Louis Hensel. He was second vice-president of the Laguna Beach Art Association under Edgar Payne, maintaining studios in both Hollywood and Laguna Beach. Preferring to paint en plein aire, he frequented the shores of Laguna, Palm Springs, Mammoth Lakes, and the High Sierras.

His love for both music and painting is evident on most of his canvases, with the 'G' in his signature represented as a treble clef note. Romandy was lead violinist for Walt Disney Studios through most of the 1930's, and was gaining recognition as an artist when he died in 1942 at the age of 49. Nearly all of his works are currently held in family and other private collections.
