Biography from AskART:
A painter of social realism, genre, landscapes and still lifes, Harold Rabinovitz was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on the 1st of February. He was interested in art at an early age and attended art classes in Springfield at the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum before entering high school. In 1931 he finished high school and entered the Yale School of Fine Arts, graduating in 1935 with the highest honors, having finished the curriculum a year early.

He began exhibiting his works in the same year and in 1936 opened his own studio in Springfield at the age of 21. In 1937 he traveled to Europe and on his return began additional studies at the Art Students League in New York City.

He exhibited at the John Herron Art Institute, The Corcoran Gallery, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Carnegie Art Institute, The National Academy of Design, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Springfield Museum of Fine Arts, 1939 World's Fair, Prix de Rome - New York City, Institute of Midern Art in Boston, San Francisco Museum Art Association, Springfield Artists Union, Springfield Art
League, George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum and other venues.

In 1941 Rabinovitz volunteered for service in the United State Army in the Engineer Corps and was taken prisoner by the Japanese Army at the fall of Batan and remained in captivity until his death in 1944 when the Japanese POW ship he was on was torpedoed and sunk.
