Howard Roberts, a sculptor, was one of the first American artists to reflect the shift in taste by the public away from the Italian-based Neo-Classicism to the Parisian Beaux-Arts manner. This new style was characterized by greater realism or greater attention to detail, sensuality, more focus on genre or human activity, and technical expertise with complicated poses. His specialites included idealized figures, statuettes and portrait busts.
