| | Born in Norway on Dec. 31, 1856. Reimers appears to have settled in California when quite young. He was an established artist at the time of his wedding in Oakland in 1883. While a resident of San Francisco in 1907-19, he studied at the Institute of Art. As well as an artist, he was also landscape architect for the Santa Fe Railway. As such, he laid out the planting of Fresno’s Roeding Park. Reimers died in San Leandro, CA on Aug. 22, 1953. Exh: Golden Gate Park Museum, 1915; SFAA, 1916-18. | A landscape painter specializing in pastel, Johannes Reimers was born in Norway and settled in California when he was quite young. By the time of his wedding in 1883, he was an established artist living in Oakland, and by 1919, he was living in San Francisco.
His most notable painting subjects were landscapes of Marin County and the Mohave Desert.
He died in San Leandro, California on August 22, 1953. |
