| Joseph Lincoln Roberts was born November 7, 1815, in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He was one of ten children born between 1803 and 1821 to Charles Lincoln and Elisabeth Roberts. Curiously, he was given the same name as an earlier son, born in 1811, who had died at the age of two. An early account of the city of Gloucester states that Charles Lincoln Roberts, a trader on Front Street for many years, died of consumption in 1831 at the age of 48. It also remarks that he left a number of children "all (showing 500 of 4728 characters). |
