| Born in Boston, MA on May 17, 1812. Joseph Warren was the grandson of Paul Revere. After enlisting in the Navy in 1828, his travels took him all over the world. In 1846 he led a landing party in California during the Mexican War and raised the American flag at Sonoma. Returning to California in 1848, he operated a ranch at Sonoma for a few years. Six of his sketches were illustrated in his bookTour of Duty in California which he published in 1849. He later served in the Civil War as a gener (showing 500 of 928 characters). |
