| | Born on a ranch near Fresno, CA on Dec. 22, 1892. Rice graduated from Heald College in San Francisco. He became interested in art through association with Maynard Dixon, a long-time friend of the Rice family. Rice studied at the CCAC during 1916-20 and worked as a commercial artist in San Francisco in 1933. As well as an artist, he was also a writer and saddlemaker.
