|  Ragan was a specialty illustrator who was well known for his paintings of machines moving fast through landscapes (especially trains).
Born in Iowa, Ragan went to the Cumming School of Art in Des Moines and then to the Art Institute in Chicago before joining the Office of War Information (OWI).
