This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Growing up in southern California, Lois Rumohr became a sculptor of bronze figures including Apache Indians of Whiteriver, Arizona, and a life-size portrait bust of the Santa Clara Pueblo painter, Pablita Velarde. Observing that she is very small in stature, some persons have expressed amazement that she can work with large, heavy sculptures.

She was born in Bakersfield, California and is of Spanish, Indian, Irish and Scotch descent. She later lived in Arcadia and in 1990, she established her studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her mediums are bronze, pencil and pastel.

From childhood, she was encouraged in her art and began drawing lessons. She studied for one year at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and also studied for seven years at the studio of Ralph Rathbone Preston.

Rumohr is a member of the Women Artists of the American West.
