Born in Austria as Lucie Gomperz, she married Hans Rie in 1926. In the late 1930s, she settled in London alone and established her ceramics studio at Albion Mews.
One of the most eminent studio potters, Dame Lucie Rie began her career in her native Vienna as a student of ceramist Michael Powolny at the Kustgewerbeschule. Establishing her first studio in 1925, Lucie Rie began exhibiting at international exhibitions immediately, having her work selected by Josef Hoff (showing 500 of 1070 characters). |
