| Chairman of the Board of the Cosanti Foundation in Scottsdale, Arizona, Mel Roman was a conceptual and installation artist as well as civil rights activist, author, and practicing psychologist. The Cosanti Foundation oversaw the work at Arcosanti by the visionary architect, Paolo Soleri.
For many years, Roman was professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he directed teaching and research programs on family and group dynamics and the connections between art and social change. He was also a resident artist at the Institute for Studies in the Arts at Arizona State University in Tempe.
