Born in New York in the early 1900s, little is known of this artist
except that he was an artist who painted in the sublime, atmospheriec
style of the Hudson River landscape painters and that he is listed in
the 1850 New York census.
One of his extant paintings, Yosemite Falls, is signed and dated
1880 and is in the Marshall Collection of Peoria, Illinois.
Apparently Roe, like Albert Bierstadt, went West to capture the
dramatic geographic qualities on canvas (showing 500 of 794 characters). |
