This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is from the artist, January 2004.

Paul Rebhan refers to himself a perceptualist/life-artist because he considers every activity of his life to be part of a continuous work of art-in-progress, made up of interconnected exploratory creations. These creations span a variety of mediums, but all relate to the exploration and alteration of perception.

Rebhan first gained attention within the art community in 1994 after surreptitiously installing one of his own paintings in New York's Museum of Modern Art, where it remained on display for two days. He stated three reasons for this act:

1. To alter the conception of the artwork from something that is completed after the paint dries. Here, the act of hanging and the resulting controversy were as much a part of the "art" as the painted canvas. The creative process extended beyond the physical object.

2. As a symbolic protest against triumvirate of galleries, museums and major collectors who hold excessive influence over the success of artists and disproportionate influence over what the public is exposed to.

3. Aesthetically, the painting fit well in the space.

Subsequently, he appeared in, and produced several New York City art shows including the New York Erotic Art Expo, and was selected to contribute a painting for the United Nations' 50th anniversary.

Rebhan is co-inventor of "Silent Dating," a worldwide activity where people socialize by writing and drawing instead of speaking. He is the founder of Rentapal: an art project/public service that offers friendship by the hour, and the Creative Boot Camp, a training program for achieving super-creativity. In 2004 he published Bubbles of Perception, an introduction to Perceptualism. Perceptualism is a new epistemological model for comprehending and exploring the limits of human perception that is related to the post-modern art movement of the same name.
