He belonged to a family of painters: his brother was Johann Melchior Roos [Dec. 27, 1663 – 1731], his father Johann Heinrich Roos [Oct.27, 1631 – Oct. 3, 1685], his uncle Theodor Roos [Sept. 1638 – June 7, 1687], his son Cajetan Roos [1690-1770], and his grandson Joseph Roos [Oct. 9, 1726 – Aug. 25, 1805].
