| | A Navajo, Roan Horse was educated by the priests at St. Michaels Indian Mission. In his youth he was a mail-carrier on the reservation. At the Albuquerque Indian School he had his first opportunity to draw and paint. After studying at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles in 1928-32, he returned to Arizona where he taught young Indian artists to combine their traditional art heritage with modern forms and techniques.
