Biography from Kingsley Art Auction:
Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data compared to the extensive information about American artists.

Ren Rong was born in Nanjing of China in 1960.  He first graduated from Nanjing Arts Institute, and then went to Germany for further study.  He enrolled in the Art Academy of Münster and the Art Academy of Düsseldorf, and studied under the renowned German Art professor, Professor Fritz Schwegler.  In 1993, he received the Scholarship of the Ministry of Education and the Art of the Federal Land Schleswig-Hostein; and received the Weiburger Special Prize for Education in Germany in the next year. In 2000, he became the visiting professor of the Academy of Art, Hamburg. Currently, he lives and works in Bonn, Germany and Beijing, China.  The moment when Ren Rong came to Germany, he put aside his original excellent painting skill so as to rebuild his own artistic style and new form of art.  Therefore, influenced by Henri Matisse’s paper cut-outs and Chinese folk’s paper-cuts, Ren Rong adopts Chinese cutting-paper as his material, and then develops it into modern art of collage creation that possesses Western artistic pleasure.
