This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Robert Reynolds is a landscape artist who concentrates on the pristine nature areas of California. Also, many of his subjects interpret and depict the coastline of California, especially the Morro Bay estuary and the recent advent of the many grape vineyards that now delineate the land. He also paints in the High Sierra mountains and has spent time in England depicting various subjects found in the many public gardens located throughout the country.
Transparent watercolor on rag paper is the medium generally associated with his work and represents about seventy-five percent of his output. Acrylic on canvas and panel board, represents about twenty-five percent of his work.
Reynolds's style is representational, and he paints landscape subjects that hold deep meaning for him. Although his work is representational and presents the subject in a recognizable manner, he interprets the subject with means of a strong design that threads all through the composition of the painting. Only the essence of the subject is chosen to depict the image. A deep commitment to the subject's sense of place plays a strong role in his work.
In a recent newspaper article, Ann Abbott, Editor of the national publication, Watercolor Magic, stated of Reynolds: "He really understands why he's painting and what he's painting, and his paintings exists on different levels. He paints in a representational style, which means he paints things pretty natural to how they appear. But he doesn't paint everything he sees. Bob is able to capture landscapes in a very moving fashion. It's truly his vision and his emotional response to a scene."
