A native of Brooklyn, New York, Roberta Remy was raised in a family with a Romanian gypsy grandmother, who stirred her imagination to depict colorful characters in everyday-genre settings. Early in her career, her subject matter was depictions of life around her in New York City, but later she moved to New Mexico where her genre and still life scenes were of that area. Market scenes are one of her favorite subjects.
