This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Pittsburgh, Russell Recchion is a portrait and landscape painter who works in Arizona, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. His talent was obvious from childhood when, in the fourth grade, he was selected to attend art classes for gifted young artists at the Carnegie Museum.

Recchion is a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. At the Academy, he received the Cadwalader Landscape Prize. He was also exposed to and influenced by early American painters in the Classical Realist tradition such as Gilbert Stuart, Thomas Sully, Thomas Eakins, and members of the Peale family.

He was also much influenced by frequent visits to Bucks County and the colony of New Hope Impressionists led by Daniel Garber and Edward Redfield.

Recchion is an exhibitor at the Hoosier Salon in Indiana and is a member of the Brown County Art Guild.

Information provided by the artist, January 2004.
