The creator of "Nuestro Pueblo", a tower in the Watts community of
south Los Angeles, Simon Rodia was born in Campagna, Italy and arrived
in America in his early teen years. He worked in the coal mines
in Pennsylvania, married, had two children and eventually moved to the
West Coast where he bought a home on wedge-shaped property in Watts.
There,
working alone with scaffolding, tile-setter's tool and a window-washer
belt and buckle, he spent thirty-three years constructing a (showing 500 of 2367 characters). |
