This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Theresa M. Rothstein was born on February 26, 1893 to Nicholas and Katherine (Katharina) Engelhard Rothstein on their farm near Richmond, Minnesota. She was the great granddaughter of German Catholic farmers who had emigrated from the Rhineland and homesteaded in Munson Township in 1855. Her father died when she was less than one month old.

In 1908 her mother moved to Richmond where she started a millinery and dressmaking business. Some time in her late teens Theresa attended St. Agatha’s Conservatory for Music and Art in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1921 her mother married John Wenner of Vancouver, Washington, to which place they moved. Her mother established another millinery and dressmaking business. Theresa managed several millinery departments while she pursued her painting.

She studied with Clyde Leon Keller and at the Museum Art School in Portland. She was a member of the Oregon Society of Artists and exhibited her work in art competitions. She died in Vancouver, Washington on December 25, 1982.  It should be noted that her name appears variously as Mary Theresa (sometimes spelled as Theresia) or as Theresia Rothstein.  As an adult she used Theresa M. Rothstein.

Written and submitted by David Rothstein, second cousin to the artist.
