| An itinerant portrait painter specializing in miniatures, A.C. Smith was in Baltimore from 1831 to 1837; Charleston, North Carolina in January of 1834; Philadelphia in 1844; and Clark County, Kentucky from 1852 to 1856. In 1844, he exhibited at the Artists' Fund Society, a fund-raising organization to raise money to aid families of deceased artists.
