Born in New York City, Akiva Segan earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1977 from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in printmaking and drawing. In 1980, he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree for the same subjects from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Studies and residences overseas include Summer studies, Academy of Fine Arts, Krakow '84 & Jagiellonian University, Krakow, '85; International Artist-in-Residence, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Scotland '87.
