The following was submitted by the artist, March 2004.
Alan Soffer has been making art since 1973 in a variety of modalities. Early in his career, he did ceramic sculpture, particularly, religious ritual objects and later for work about ancient medicine and dentistry. Gradually the direction has been focused on abstract expressionist paintings. His current work as teacher, curator, and most of all maker of encaustic paintings has been well established beginning around 2000.
