Alice Low Sand was born in Brooklyn Heights, New York on August 26, 1870, second daughter of Wall Street banker and artist Maximilian Edward Sand (1845-1906, descended from a family of German immigrants) and his wife Alice Orne Low (1846-1912, daughter of Josiah Low and Martha E. Mills). She grew up in the family's riverside mansion (Birchcroft, at W. Clinton & Half Moon Lane) in Ardley-on-Hudson and (showing 500 of 1292 characters).
