"Sem lived and worked in Amsterdam. Local records identify him as a painter and mention two exhibitions of his works in 1836 and 1838. He is also mentioned in Germany - Wiesbaden 1849 and Baden 1862. Known to be a painter of romantic landscapes and city views, but best liked for his affectionate winter scenes. Due to his early death collector loyalty, his works are rarely found on the open market."
