| | Born in Iowa on Feb. 22, 1899, the son of artist Fred L. Severance. Arthur moved to Los Angeles with his mother shortly after his birth. By age 15 he was working there as an artist. Following service in WWI, he returned to Los Angeles and was an insurance adjuster for 33 years. He died there on Oct. 22, 1964. | Source:
