Biography from Butler's Fine Art:
Arthur Schwieder began exhibiting at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1909 when he was twenty-five years old.  In 1928, he formed a summer artist colony at Inwood Park, on the upper fringe of Manhattan, and continued instruction through the 1950s, bringing to light many artists whose work was shown in regular Schwieder Group Exhibitions at New York galleries, including the prestigious Montross Gallery.

Schwieder exhibited his own work at The Salons of America, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art Annuals and the Society of Independent Artists in the 1930s, and at the Frank Rehn Gallery in New York City throughout the 1940s and 1950s.

Artist and teacher, Arthur Schwieder was known for his extremely individual style of modernist painting, a combination of realism, semi-abstraction and cubism. Another location to which he was personally devoted was Central Park, particularly the Boating Lake, for which he received much critical acclaim.

The Smithsonian Institution of American Art has extensive archival information about Arthur Schwieder, which may be available through one's local library.
