This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Auldwin Schomberg, known for his sports figure sculpture, was described by a writer for Sports Illustrated magazine as "perhaps the best known sports sculptor of his time."

Sylvester Stallone selected Schomberg to create what was later to become the iconic ROCKY statue for the movie, ROCKY III.  The National Museum of sport has a bronze figurative piece in its collection of a champion amateur squash player.

Schomberg has pursued a central theme, from his youthful days in Iowa, through the formal and formative years of study, to the last three decades of creativity, and that is to describe the time and environment in which he lives and works, west of Denver, Colorado.

In 1984, the statue entitled, Down but Not Out.. Lost but Not Forgotten, was produced for the international amateur boxing association in memory of the American Olympic boxing contingency killed in a 1980 airplane crash en route to Poland.  One of the life size castings is permanently located at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and the second is located in front of the Skra Stadium in Warsaw, Poland.

Today, Schomberg's sculptures have become world-renowned and are exhibited and collected internationally.
