An Associate Professor and Distinguished Artist in Residence, Barclay Sheaks is a painter whose work is owned by numerous museums, including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Butler Institute of American Art.
He has participated extensively in juried exhibitions sponsored by institutions including the National Academy of Design, the Corcoran Gallery, and the Smithsonian, and has hosted his own public television series, Acrylic Painting with Barclay Sheaks.
He is the author of many books, including The Acrylics Book (1996), Drawing Figures and Faces (1987), and Stretching the Eye's Distance: Reflections on the Chesapeake Bay (1981), a volume of poetry.
A collection of Sheaks's painting are on permanent display in the Sheaks Gallery in the Godwin Administration Building of Virginia Wesleyan College.
