| Born in Safed, Syria on June 15, 1877. Sopher was a pupil of Peter Breuner and Adolph Brutt in Berlin. By the 1930s he had moved to California. He was a resident of San Francisco and Los Angeles until his demise in the latter on June 18, 1949.
