This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Watercolorist Bill Stone is known for his bold use of color, use of saturated transparent colors and the exclusion of white from his palette.

Stone started out at the University of California, Berkeley intending to become a doctor. Unprepared for the rigorous science curriculum he changed his major to art and zoology. While serving in the Army Medical Corps during War World II he did some illustration work for a young doctor and became interested in medical illustration.

After finishing his degree at Berkeley he applied and was accepted to the School of Medical Illustration at Massachusetts General Hospital. It was there that he met his wife, fellow student, Nancy Evans. After graduation the two relocated to California. Stone worked in medical illustration for a number of years before earning a teaching credential. He then took a job at Carmel High School where he served as head of the art department for 20 years.

Bill Stone, now retired, continues to paint and stay active in the Carmel Art Association an organization he has belonged to for 31 years serving five terms as president.
