Carolyn (C. A.) Smith is a Texas artist born and raised in California. She began studying art at the Los Angeles Art League with master painter, Hal Reed. His two-year course on the fundamentals of painting laid the groundwork for continued study through workshops and an ever expanding library.
Growing up the daughter of an artist also provided ample opportunity to study and develop a deep appreciation for the work of both contemporary and past masters such as the early California plein air painters. Preferring the oil and pastel mediums, Smith works in the studio and on location traveling to various locales across the western half of the United States.
Last year she traveled to Italy to paint in Umbria, Tuscany, and, in Venice, where the light and atmosphere make for irresistible subject matter. In an effort to grow professionally, she regularly enters national level juried exhibitions.
This year her piece, Autumn Crossing, made the Top 200 in the Arts For The Parks competition.
Her work is included in private and corporate collections in the U. S. and Australia.
Professional affiliations include Oil Painters of America, Pastel Society of the Southwest, and the California Art Club.
