This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Carolyn Ann Crocker is a landscape painter who draws inspiration from her home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Carolyn grew up in a thriving and vibrant Southern California art scene. After seeing an Impressionist exhibit at the Laguna Museum of Art, she knew she wanted to learn how to create light-filled atmospheric paintings of her own.

Her first teacher was her mother, California Impressionist, Marilyn E. Crocker, who introduced her daughter to oils and pastels while in her teens. At age 23, Carolyn had the opportunity to study with artist and author, Hal Reed, in Los Angeles. Mainly interested in the landscape, Carolyn spent several years painting in Plein-Air both in the U.S. and abroad. Trips to Italy and Brazil were the impetus for her first solo shows
In 1988, Carolyn moved from her home in California to Texas where she resided for 25 years. Works were exhibited under the name of C.A. Smith in Houston, Dallas and Scottsdale as well as seaside communities in North Florida.  Her oil paintings and pastels are in private and corporate collections in North America, Australia, England and Mexico.

Biography from Thornwood Gallery:

Carolyn (C. A.) Smith Crocker  was a Texas artist, now located in North Carolina, and born and raised in California.  She began studying art at the Los Angeles Art League with master painter, Hal Reed.  His two-year course on the fundamentals of painting laid the groundwork for continued study through workshops and an ever expanding library.

Growing up the daughter of an artist also provided ample opportunity to study and develop a deep appreciation for the work of both contemporary and past masters such as the early California plein air painters.  Preferring the oil and pastel mediums, Smith works in the studio and on location traveling to various locales across the western half of the United States.

She has traveled to Italy to paint in Umbria, Tuscany, and, in Venice, where the light and atmosphere make for irresistible subject matter.  In an effort to grow professionally, she regularly enters national level juried exhibitions.

In 2010 her piece, Autumn Crossing, made the Top 200 in the Arts For The Parks competition.

Her work is included in private and corporate collections in the U. S. and Australia.

Professional affiliations include Oil Painters of America, Pastel Society of the Southwest, and the California Art Club.
