This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A painter and magazine illustrator, Carl Setterberg was born in Las Animas, Colorado. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the American Academy of Fine Arts and the Grand Central Art School in New York.  He became an illustration artist in the West for the United States Air Force, which included portraits of personnel at the Air Force Academy.

In New York, he was a member of the Society of Illustrators, the American Watercolor Society, and the Salmagundi Club, and in 1962 was elected a full member of the National Academy of Design.

His magazine illustrations included work for McCalls, Colliers, Women's Home Companion and Redbook.

The following information is from Margo Rana, 7/2002:

Carl Setterberg, ANA, AWS, ARgst: Carl Setterberg in addition to a watercolorist and illustrator was a commissioned World War II Captain in the US Army Special Service in Artist in 1942.  He was commissioned by the US Air Force to document Air Force operations in Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, Korea and the USA from 1954-58.

The last known residence was Samarkand Villa 28, 2663 Tallant Road, Santa Barbara, California 93105.  He died in 1981.
