This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Charles C. Svendsen was born in Cincinnati December 7,1871. He was the only son of Charles J.F. Svendsen, who established an internationally known banner, flag, and military equipment business in Cincinnati in 1866. The business was continued after the father's death in 1903 by the family until 1925.

Charles C. Svendsen at the age of six attended private drawing school and in his youth was a student of Thomas Noble at the Cincinnati Art Academy. He was also a pupil of Bouguereau and Gabriel Ferrier in the Academy Julian and Academy Colarossi in Paris.

He won a bronze at the St. Louis universal exposition for a gouache water color owned by the Cincinnati Club. He was a commissioner of fine arts for Holland and Belgium at the Tennessee international exposition in Nashville.

He was the first artist to receive distinction of being represented at Chicago's Vanderpoel Memorial Museum. In 1898, he toured Egypt and Palestine and brought back more than a hundred sketches, drawings, and paintings.
The following is from Elroy Ramsey:

This artist had paintings that were exhibited in special showings at the St. Louis and Detroit museums. He specialized in religio-historical paintings best represented in Cincinnati's St. Xavier Church, St. Theresa home chapel, St. Andrews, St. William, Holy Cross and Mt. St. Mary's seminary in Norwood.

More of his work is in Mt. Alverna-Dayton, Ohio and Mt. Alverna-Toledo, Ohio. He also has panels in the Martyr's crypt of Mt. St. Sepulchre, Washington DC.; The Cathedral of Dacca,India; and St Joseph Church, Nazareth Palestine.

Charles Svendsen's works are also in the Cincinnati Museum, Vanderpoel Memorial Museum, Taft Collection, Firestone Collection, Streitmann Collection and many personal collections across the United States.

Illustrations of his appear in many books and magazines. He used to conduct an art column for many years.
