Charles James SindelarBorn in Cleveland, OH on May 27, 1876. Sindelar (né Sindelaer) worked at the Cleveland Printing Company before going to NYC at age 15. There he was apprenticed to a commercial artist while studying at the NAD under Ward. He was also a pupil of Carl Hecker and A. Mucha. For 20 years he made the menu covers for the Lotus Club. He moved to Los Angeles in 1926 and was active there as an artist until his death on May 15, 1947.
