The following data is from Cindy Sheppard Leadbeater:

I am writing to provide you with some information uncovered recently about an ancestor: Charles M. Shean.

He was born October 8th, 1852 in Brooklyn, NY.

His sister, Lysbeth Burr Shean, was my Great-Great Grandmother.

I have a portrait he painted of an Oriental girl. It measures 29”x24” including a 3” gold frame. This painting has hung in my Grandmother’s house as long as I can remember. I was told it was painted by an ancestor of the “Siney’s” named Shean.

From my ancestry searches I discovered that he was the son of a grocer and lived at 449 van Buren and 75 Van Buren in Brooklyn.

He had studios at 146 W 55th and also at 120 W 50th in Brooklyn.

1900 census claims he was an artist, 1910 census claims him to be a “portrait” artist.

He was single until at least 57 years old and married a woman almost 20 years younger.

Search shows he lived at 75 Van Buren in 1925. I do not yet have any death information.
