The following is from the artist:

Charles Sovek, an internationally known and award-winning artist began painting in 1956, when he had the privilege of beginning a ten year stint of art education. The schools he attended include The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Institute of Technology, Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, and The Art Student's League of New York, not to mention numerous private teachers, all of whom helped contribute to the artist's abilities and success.

He has written four books: Painting Indoors, Catching Light in your Paintings, Oil Painting: Develop Your Natural Ability and Keying Your Paintings. In addition, Sovek has authored pieces, written book reviews, magazine articles, appeared on television, spoken on radio shows, and has been the subject of numerous magazine, book and newspaper articles.

As a contributing editor to The Artist's Magazine, he has written dozens of feature articles. He also authors various books on drawing, painting and the artistic life through his own publishing enterprise, The Back Porch Press.

Sovek has exhibited widely, garnered numerous awards and prizes and has been involved with many of the leading art organizations around the country including The Salmagundi Club, The Cincinnati Art Club, The Rockport Art Association, The Mendocino Art Center, and The Provincetown Art Association. He is also a signature member of the prestigious Plein Air Painters of America.

Widely traveled, he has painted, exhibited, conducted workshops and judged shows throughout United States, Canada, Mexico and numerous countries abroad. Charles Sovek's paintings are represented in countless private, corporate and museum collections.

The artist divided his time between warm weather months in Massachusetts,
exhibiting on Cape Cod, and frequent painting trips to California and the Southwest, where he shows at Nedra Matteuci Fine Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Cold weather months were spent painting and writing in his snug Connecticut home and studio.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Charles Sovek became a painterly, expressive landscape and marine painter of both the East and West Coasts. He is known for his colorful depictions.

He studied at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and continued his studies as a four-year scholarship student at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. He also studied three years at the Art Students League of New York City.  He has written three books on painting and has been a contributing editor to The Artist's Magazine."

He was voted to membership in the Plein Air Painters of America, and in Connecticut has been an Associate Professor at Paier College of Art and Instructor of Drawing and Painting at Silvermine School of Art. He has been an artist-in residence at Mendocino Art Center in California.

Charles Sovek died on June 8, 2007.
