This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Following is information provided by David and Courtney Aman:

"I have several woodcuts by this artist, and below is some information that was sent to me when I bought some prints of his that were published in The Colophon and Old Charleston Twenty-Four Woodcuts. I also have the book Charles Smith, prints and drawings with text by William Bainter O'Neal.

Charles W. Smith (American, 1893-1987). "Anson Street" an original woodcut from Old Charleston Twenty-Four Woodcuts, a limited edition volume signed and numbered by the artist, numbered 1237 of 1550. Printed August 1933 by Garrett and Massie, Richmond, Virginia and published 1935 by The Dale Press, Richmond, Va. Image size 6" by 6 12"; sheet size 9 12" by 12 12".

Smith's description of this image: "One sees types of old buildings common to Charleston.".

Smith studied at The University of Virginia, Yale and The Corcoran Art School. He taught Graphic Arts at Bennington and University of Virginia and chaired the Art Department at UVA.

He published several rare books of his woodcuts and won many awards. His work is in many important collections, including the Whitney Museum, NY Public Library, Art Institute of Chicago and Yale University.  His work was featured in a major art history publication on the Charleston Renaissance of the 1920s through 40s.

Single sided image, nothing on reverse, on heavy paper. Excellent condition. Guaranteed to be authentic and as described. This print includes a copy of the signature and edition number page.

I also have a nice interior woodcut from: The Colophon. Part 15. 1933. Contains this original woodcut by Charles Smith, signed in the block and titled "A Charleston Window."
